Product Review – Auto Finesse Iron Out
if you have already read one of my previous articles on CarPro Iron X, you will already know pretty much everything that you need to on the topic of fallout removers. If you have not, I would recommend that you go check it out here.
If you don’t have that kind of time and you want a quick Summary:
Fallout occurs when small airborne metal particles settle on the surface of your car and bond to it.
Iron Particles have a nasty habit of causing imperfections when they are dragged over a surface. Removing them is a must if you want a clean and reflective paint surface ( Who doesn’t? ), but will also minimize the risk of swirls. Iron Contaminants appear as dark spots on the paintwork and create an orange-looking haze over a light coloured car. When these iron particles are left, they can cause paint corrosion.
When you apply car wax or similar product, you need the surface to be perfectly clean and smooth. Products will not bond properly on a rough surface. Removing fallout is simply part of proper decontamination and one of the most important steps in detailing any car
There are a multitude of Iron Removers and Decontamination products and Auto Finesse Iron out is just another one of those
I recently finished my last bottle of Iron X, which is typically my go-to fallout remover, and decided to switch it up a bit and buy Iron Out again, which I have not used in quite a while.
Auto Finesse Iron out vs CarPro Iron x – Is there a difference?
First Lets Look at Auto Finesse Iron Out :
AGITATION REQUIRED | NO |
---|---|
CHEMICAL BASIS | ACID-BASED (NEUTRALISED) |
CLEANING STRENGTH |
|
DILUTABLE | NO |
MAXIMUM DWELLING TIME | 10 MINUTES |
PH | 6 (ACIDIC) |
REMOVES INORGANIC CONTAMINANTS | YES |
REMOVES ORGANIC CONTAMINANTS | YES |
SAFE FOR ALL WHEEL TYPES | YES |
STRIPS COATINGS | NO |
STRIPS SEALANTS AND WAXES | YES (PARTIALLY) |
Auto Finesse Iron Out comprises of a thick gel-based solution that is very clingy, meaning that applied product stays where it is meant to be, rather than running off on to the floor. Furthermore, it contains a much higher concentration of the active iron-dissolving ingredient (a neutralised acid salt), which means it reacts more quickly and more thoroughly too. This has the knock-on effect of making it more expensive than products like Iron X.
Now let’s Look at Iron X
AGITATION REQUIRED | SOMETIMES |
---|---|
CHEMICAL BASIS | ACID-BASED (NEUTRALISED) |
CLEANING STRENGTH |
|
DILUTABLE | NO |
MAXIMUM DWELLING TIME | APPROX 5 MINUTES |
PH | 6 -7 |
REMOVES INORGANIC CONTAMINANTS | YES |
REMOVES ORGANIC CONTAMINANTS | YES |
SAFE FOR ALL WHEEL TYPES | YES ( Avoid Bare Metal Parts like Brake Calipers ) |
STRIPS COATINGS | NO ( Most Cases ) |
STRIPS SEALANTS AND WAXES | YES (PARTIALLY) |
CarPro’s Iron X is a much less thick solution. It tends to dry a lot faster than Iron out ( which is more gel-based solution ). This means it has a shorter dwell time as it tends to dry more quickly. For this reason alone I am more prone to using Iron Out on my Paintwork or anywhere on the body of the car more than Iron X. In theory, both similar products that are not drastically different in their chemical make up.
Auto Finesse Iron Out How to Use
Step 1:
Apply liberally to the surface of the car. In this particular case, I decided to use it both on the TTRS paintwork and all the wheels. Judging by the lack of bleeding on the car’s paintwork, there was obviously very little contamination, but no harm is done either way.
Step 2:
Wait for the reaction to turn any contamination purple. You can see by the heavy bleeding on my wheels that there was quite a bit of fallout on my wheels.
Step 3:
Rinse thoroughly with water.
Step 4:
Repeat if necessary.
Auto Finesse Iron Out Review
I must say that I really like this product by Auto Finesse. It is quite evident that it is a powerful fallout remover, with the added benefit of its thicker consistency it seems to give it a slight edge over products like Iron X.
The advantage this product has over some similar products on the market is its gel-like viscosity, aiding it to cling and dwell for longer periods, making it more effective, reducing the amount used (rather than it running off the surface on to the ground) and aiding application on tricky designs.
I do not know the exact makeup of each of these products ingredients but I have a feeling that Iron X is a slightly harsher and more aggressive product ( I could be wrong ) when compared to Iron out. This, in turn, would make me more inclined to use it on more sensitive areas of the car ( like the paintwork ), just because I don’t really want to strip any existing protection I have on there.
