Product Review : AutoGlym Fast Glass
Glass Cleaners are one type of detailing product that have never really grabbed much of my interest. I mean, why care too much about glass cleaners when you can be trying out the latest and greatest nano sealants or high-end waxes, where you get a real bang for your buck and visual impact.
At the end of the day glass is glass, right? Surely there cannot be much difference between these products available on the market and they will pretty much all give the same results. This is the trap I had fallen into in the past.
As much as I hate to admit it, when I was younger I used to use a household glass cleaning spray on the glass of my car. It was already in the house anyway, so why would I bother buying ANOTHER glass cleaning product that is effectively going to do the same thing? It all seemed like a total waste of money.
It is only when you start using products that are specifically intended for use on the glass of a car that you start to realize you don’t get the same results at all. I
t is amazing how much visual impact crystal clear glass that just pops can make to a freshly detailed car, it can make a world of difference.
One Glass cleaning product I picked up recently was Fast Glass by AutoGlym. Let’s take a look at how it did.
What is AutoGlym Fast Glass?
Autoglym Fast Glass is a spray-on, wipe off all-purpose cleaner for car glass, car mirrors, Perspex, acrylic and plastic windows. The beauty of this cleaner is that it can be used inside and outside of your car. (Unlike some glass cleaners which contain rain repellent properties which tend to fog up when used on the inside of the glass in the car.)
Autoglym Fast Glass is free from abrasives and quickly removes road grime, insect remains, tree sap, oil, grease and bird droppings on your car’s glass. One important point to note about Autoglym Fast Glass is that it does NOT contain ammonia.
I highly discourage the use of ammonia-based glass cleaners on your car. While ammonia is a great glass cleaner for the home, ammonia is harmful to many car surfaces, including vinyl, rubber and leather.
More importantly, the use of ammonia inside your car is harmful to your health. Use an automotive glass cleaner like fast glass that specifically states it’s safe to use on window-tint film. A glass cleaner that’s safe for the window-tint film will not harm the plastic and vinyl surfaces on your car.
What is the difference between AutoGlym Fast Glass & AutoGlym Glass Polish?
Car Glass Polish contains cleaning powders that allow you to really deep clean grimy glass. It is best to apply a small amount to a cloth and continually work the product until it has pretty much disappeared, as oppose to a paint polish that you would apply and leave to dry to a haze. Car Glass Polish shouldn’t be used on non-glass surfaces. This product is a cream.
Fast Glass is a super quick spray on wipe off a product that can be used on all plastics, acrylics and glass, as well as a general hard surface cleaner. This product is a liquid.
I would recommend fast glass as a day to day cleaner and only use the glass polish on heavily soiled glass every so often.
AutoGlym Fast Glass – How to Use
I decided to use the fast glass on my father’s windows, to give a better idea of its effectiveness as my own windows are pretty clean at the moment and have been recently treated to a water-repelling solution, so I don’t want to remove that just yet.
Fast Glass is Super Easy to apply and you cannot really go wrong with applying it to the glass of a car, it is pretty straightforward.
Step 1: Spray Autoglym Fast Glass Directly onto the Window of the Car
Step 2: Wipe Clean until completely dry with a lint-free Microfiber Cloth
As this product is safe to use on interior bits ( Screens, Mirrors etc ) I would suggest spraying it on to the Microfiber cloth first before applying, rather than spraying the product directly on to the surface.
AutoGlym Fast Glass – Results
I am pretty impressed just how well fast glass works with very little effort and time. It took me about 5 minutes ( maybe less? ) to do the whole car and I was delighted with the perfect results. The Clarity of the glass was amazing, and I could not fault it in any way. AutoGlym Fast glass is also pretty cheap, so given the price point, I couldn’t have asked for more!
AutoGlym Fast Glass Final Thoughts
If you have read my post on How to Keep your Car clean between washes, you will know that one of the main things you can do to keep your car looking fresh is to keep the glass clean and shiny. One of the best ways to achieve this is with something like AutoGlym Fast Glass.
It is a cheap and effective product which accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do.
